Fashion Week Dairy: Orange Silk, Sparkly Suits & Ticket Woes

Day one is now over and my head is literally buzzing, not only from the dehydration and heat of the tents but the amazing designs we saw in a very strong day one!

Favourite show: World

The first day was so strong it was hard to pick a fav, but at the end of the day it had to be World. Showing a collection that picked up on influences from 80s modernism, to brights, to 30s extravagance and Katherine Hepburn cuts. Bows, amazing styling, the most beautiful hats you have ever seen and spot on makeup had everyone buzzing. All day I heard people chatter about it with giant smiles on their faces – now that’s a way to open Fashion Week!

Favourite styling: Kirrily Johnston

The Kirrily show was...breathtaking. Really fantastic trans seasonal shapes perfect for layering or wearing your own way. Over dinner the Kirrily Johnston team explained that’s why they knew it would hit the ground running here. Whilst the colours and shapes had a distinct Aussie feel (not a bad thing by the way) they are the kind of pieces that New Zealand women will own and love. The makeup for the show was a gorgeous play with weight and depth to compliment the beautifully cut and draped garments.

Favourite Item: Feather Pleating Strapless Dress from Cybele

The whole Cybele collection had a birds and feathers theme and it got the trend spot on. But when this dress walked down the runway everyone went “oooo” and that’s the response you want! The whole collection was filled with Cybele’s signature play with textures, drapery and folds. But for me, this dress was a standout.

Had them Buzzing: Juliette Hogan

There was a baby on the catwalk at Juliette Hogan, dressed in her new baby line cradled in the arms of a beautifully dressed vintage “mum”, a picture of pretty in sheer florals and soft hues. The Juliette Show was a little bit of perfection, with everyone I asked saying they “love everything”.

Daily Gossip: Not Enough seats to tickets at Stitch Ministry had some buyers angry they were blocked out of the show! Eeek!

Keep posted for full designer show rundowns!
