This week we recieved a beautiful post card from a familiar face - nzgirl fav Gemma!
This gorgeous girl has been busy travelling across Europe on her honeymoon (how romantic!) and we were lucky enough to get an inside peek. She sends us this glowing postcard from the stunning Greek Islands...ah, we're so jealous! ___________________________________________________________________________
Dear nzgirl,
I'm sending you this postcard from... Santorini in the Greek Islands AKA paradise.
My first thought when I stepped off the plane was... Wow, there's one of those white Greek houses with the blue roof - just like in the photos! Although, not quite so picturesque, given it's nestled next to the island's tiny runway!
My craziest night was... Driving to Oia at the top of the island on the little 50cc quad bike we had rented. The trip back in the dark was a bit hairy, but it was worth it for the incredibly romantic sunset (it was our honeymoon afterall!), not to mention the delicious dinner at a little taverna and the village itself, which is mind blowingly beautiful.
The coolest thing I saw was... The bottom of the pool! With the temperature reaching about 37 degrees every day it was the best place to be. Closely followed by the amazing panaromic views from the village of Fira.
It's so different from home because... I might have mentioned the weather, that's a biggie. Then there's the culture that stretches back so far, the incredible buildings in the villages, which are literally just perched on top of each other up a cliff, and the laid back island vibe.
I'd like to come back next time and... Spend more time exploring! We'd been travelling for about 2.5 months by the time we reached Santorini, so we didn't do much more than lounge by the pool and drink copious amounts of sangria - it would be nice to go back and see more of the island.
I'd recommend this place to you... Because there's no way you couldn't love it! And if you're looking for somewhere to stay, try Villa Manos - the owner Poppy is so lovely and looks after her guests so well, plus the pool is awesome!
