When you really want to spoil yourself, you just can't go past a luxurious and indulgent massage. It's something we all love the thought of - even if we've never had a professional massage in our lives! What's so great about a luxury massage? Are they really worth the money? We spoke to Ina Bajaj of the East Day Spa, from their very luxe Mollies spa to find out... The Benefits Luxury massages don’t just feel amazing, they do wonders for your body as well – bonus! Massage helps to relieve stress and aids relaxation. It also helps to relieve muscle tension and stiffness, and promotes faster healing. It can enhance athletic performance, improve posture and strengthen the immune system. If you’re feeling a little off kilter, stressed beyond belief or just all over the place, a luxury massage could be the thing to help you snap back into place. Cher Lynn Tan, Spa Manager of the East Day Spa at Mollies says “Massage is about bringing a deep state of calm and rebalancing energy points.” Massage also increases circulation, and increases the flow of lymph, the body’s natural defence system, against toxic invaders. Sounds fabulous doesn’t it?! Ina recommends drinking a lot of water after a massage to help flush out toxins and dehydrate your body - otherwise your amazing massage experience could be ruined by pesky headaches afterwards!
Restore your inner balanceThe East Day Spa offers holistic treatments based on Ayurveda and Balinese treatments. Ayruveda is an ancient Indian system of health. Ina describes it as “the science of life.” She says it’s based on the philosophy of prevention rather than cure. “The idea is to heal from the inside rather than outside. Most other massages focus solely on healing the outside. We take the view that if you’re at peace on in the inside, than the treatment is going to work a lot better.” So how to do you get this peace on the inside? A huge aspect of the Mollies Spa, and any East Day Spa is the instantly calming atmosphere that greets you upon entry. Ina says the temperature is set to a lush 24-25° because the aim is to “bring you to the tropics.” Fragrant essential oils also fill the air, helping you to relax and the view of the gorgeous outside garden helps you to feel at peace. Ina says it’s important to bring the chilled out holiday mode into their urban spas, because unlike resort spas, clients are usually in a state of every day stress, as opposed to being on holiday. ”We try to create an urban oasis here”, she says. The East Day Spa philosophy is all about relaxing the body, calming the soul and clearing the mind…mmm sounds good already! Treat it as a necessityLuxury massages are so important for your wellbeing – they are great way to keep your stress levels in check, release tension and feel totally pampered. Instead of viewing a massage as an indulgence you can only justify splurging on once a year, think of it as essential to your health and wellbeing. Ina says you should view a massage like a haircut, and book regular appointments, at least every 4 – 6 weeks. Where to start? If you’ve never had a massage before, trying to pick one can be more than a little daunting! Ina recommends starting off with a gentle, nurturing massage, such as the Shanti, to help ease your body into the movements. She also says it’s important to communicate with your massage therapist. “Although some people don’t feel comfortable with saying, ‘that’s too hard’ or ‘go softer’, it’s so important to talk freely and tell the therapist what feels right for you.” Getting the luxe vibe at homeBetween massages you can still get the luxurious pampering feel at home. “Create the mood and you're half way there,” says Ina. She recommends a candle lit bath with soothing oils, such as sandalwood or jasmine and playing calming music to help you relax. She’s also a fan of footscrubs while relaxing in front of the telly. You can buy sachets of the gorgeous Earth Garden Soak from any East Day Spa, and at only $12.50 it’s a super luxe and affordable DIY pamper treat for your footsies! Ina’s top tip is to get a man who knows how to give a good massage! If you’ve got one, stock up on the lush Forrest Essential Body Massage Oil (RRP $55.00) from Mollies, to give that uber special touch to your at home pamper sessions. The verdict I was treated to the amazing Beach massage on my visit to the Mollies East Day Spa. It’s an incredible 90 minutes of pure bliss! The massage is inspired by ancient healing traditions and uses hot stones and sand pouches with acupressure and deep tissue massage to relax and calm your body and mind. My entire body was rubbed and soothed with the absolutely divine Jasmine massage oil, and I was so relaxed I caught myself almost snoring! A luxury massage is definitely a treat you should be sure to afford yourself at least once a month. Ina and her fabulous East Day Spa team will definitely pamper you to bits, leaving you stress free, relaxed and perfectly in balance.
