Who works here?
Celine Chapman, founder of the Celine Rita fashion label. What does a typical day look like for you? My days are extremely varied, depending on the time of the year, and what part I am up to in the design/production process. I have daily/weekly/monthly timetables set up for myself, that I have to follow as strictly as I can.
In the mornings, I get online orders wrapped up and ready for the courier and I make sure I am up to date with emails. Then during the design stage, you'll find me playing around with fabric samples and coming up with different ideas until I have the final designs for the new range. Leading up to the launch of a new range, I am flat out organizing the show- music track list, models, photo shoots, run sheets, hair and makeup, styling, invites etc… it’s so amazing to see the final range all together at the end.
What inspires you? I am constantly inspired by everything around me, and constantly looking for inspiration; I find it in books, new music, art, colour, films, flowers & gardens, magazines, fabrics, photography, cupcakes, people - I love people watching - family and friends, architecture and cute little things people say and do. What keeps your organised? My diary and the timetables and plans I set myself - and knowing that if I don’t get up and do it, no one else will! Talk us through what’s on your desk at the moment…
1: These are the sketches for my upcoming Winter 2010 range, complete with fabric swatches next to each of the outfits.
2: My diary never leaves my side, I have to write every single thing down so I don’t forget. I also always have fabric swatches around me. The days that new fabric swatches arrive are very exciting for me! 3 + 4: This is my industrial machine. I love that this space has my inspiration board right above it, so when I am working I can always see it. My inspiration board gets changed frequently, and reflects what has inspired current collections. I also have general reminders up there for me, and anything cute that I like the look of, or ideas for hair and makeup. It also has a few quotes on it, as well as some cute pictures I like to keep up all the time. Under this, I have my drawn up timetable for the week, right in front of me, so I can tick off what I have done and stay on track. 5: I have a few racks to keep stock, and works-in-progress. I love how the fabrics of each collection work together when hanging next to each other, and can’t wait for the time I have my own boutique to hang all the beautiful clothes! 6: This is the view out my window from my work room. I like to have fresh flowers in the workroom. In spring I get to watch the cute little lambs, and at the moment I have the cows hanging out there!
